    According to my school english...

"There you go" can be also translated as... "tieni; tieni questo"
    and
"Here you are" is the english for... "eccoti".

    Hope this helps! [SM=g27828]

    Hi everyone,
In September I started a two year diploma course in Italian. The course is being run by the University in Galway and is very intensive. Four weeks into the course, I wonder if I'll ever get a handle on the grammar. L'articolo determinativo, singolare e plurale was this week's homework and it was a challenge for me!
I found this amazing site by pure chance. I was wondering if you guys could answer grammar questions from time to time and set me on the right road to learning the language? I promise not to be a complete pain, I want to do the homework myself because if I don't I'll learn nothing. [SM=x145517]
I'm a fluent Irish speaker so if you need any Irish translations I can help anyone with that.
    Thanks to everyone in advance.

    So to the first question

spiccioli - change as in money, do I have the right translation?
    gli spiccioli - the change
Does this noun have a singular or should it be in the plural at all?
    Again I appreciate any input.
    Grazie

The translation you have is correct.

    Also a singolar form exist:

Hai qualche spicciolo? Do you have some changes?

It is used also to describe a very small share one got from a business.

    ex.

Loro si divisero il bottino e a me lasciarono solo gli spiccioli...
They shared out the haul leaving for me only the changes...

I hope it could be useful for you, anyway you are at the beginnig of the course and these are just details... don't worry. [SM=g27811]

Thank you so much for such a speedy reply. I like the details, so no problem. I appreciate your reply. I translate for people on another forum and it amazes me how few people offer a thank you for a translation. So I'm really thankful you took the time to reply to my post. [SM=x145517]

    Scottie, u correct !

Yes... "dont'be shy" is much more better than "don't be afraid".

It's an example of "spaghetti-translation" 'cause in Italian we use the word "afraid" in a wider variety of cases.

I've read the message, but with only five lessons of Italian (15 hours), I don't understand very much. I think the gist of it was whether to use 'Don't be shy' versus 'Don't be afraid'.
"SEGHE MENTALI" Well it wasn't in the dictionary, so I googled it. I found it here.

    Interesting,to say the least! [SM=g27824]
I wonder if I'll be able to use that phrase (SEGHE MENTALI)in the oral exam in December. I think not!! [SM=g27828]

Nothing really interesting in that post Cailìn, if not the mere fact that chap there wrote Italian. [SM=g27828]
Got a look to that italian slang page... quite interesting! And well no I don't think myself italian slang would be mandatory to that oral exam. [SM=g27827]:

    LORO is accusative pronoun.
The correct Italian should be ESSI, that is a nominative pronoun.
