Milan-Celtic venue switch mooted
Celtic's Champions League game away to AC Milan in the last 16 could be switched to a neutral venue.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) suspended matches indefinitely after a policeman died during crowd trouble at a Serie A game last Friday.
Milan host Celtic at the San Siro on 7 March, but the club could be ordered to play behind closed doors.
UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said Milan would prefer to play the game in front of fans in France or Switzerland.
Scotland are due to face Italy in Bari for a Euro 2008 qualifier on 28 March.
The Italian Government has announced new security measures for all football clubs in the country.
The measures include a ban on the block sale of tickets to away fans, a beefing-up of stadium bans for those involved in violence at grounds and a ban on financial or working relationships between clubs and fan associations.
Clubs unable to meet the safety standards will have to play games behind closed doors.
The move follows the death of officer Filippo Raciti, who died during violent clashes in the Sicilian derby between Catania and Palermo.
The FIGC suspended games pending an investigation into crowd violence.
AC Milan and Inter, who also play at the San Siro, could play the remainder of this season's home league games behind closed doors.
Gaillard said: "We want to know in particular what measures will apply to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) and we're ready to consider all hypotheses.
"We know Milan would rather play on neutral ground in France or Switzerland than play behind closed doors in Milan."
It is understood only five stadia in Serie A currently meet the required standard - the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the Artemio Franchi in Siena, the Stadio Olimpico in Turin, Renzo Barbera in Palermo, Sampdoria's Luigi Ferraris and Messina's San Filippo.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "If the authorities confirm their decision is final, we will have to play behind closed doors."
