Ehilà, fergus. Da dove sbucano questi fantastici versi? De donde vienen estos versos asì fabulosos?

Shane MacGowan, rientrato per la seconda volta nei Pogues e fresco vincitore di un premio assegnatogli dalla rivista “Q”, è stato co-protagonista di un imbarazzante incidente. Il cantante dalla pinta facile si trovava al Connaught, un albergo a cinque stelle di Londra, quando, in compagnia di un amico al quale si accompagna da alcuni giorni, è stato gentilmente invitato a lasciare l’hotel. Una fonte ha riferito ad un giornalista di un quotidiano della capitale britannica che la direzione del lussuoso albergo ha cacciato dall’edificio MacGowan ed il suo amico dopo aver trovato in pessimo stato un’antica sedia sulla quale si era seduto uno dei due. Non è ben chiaro cosa sia accaduto al pezzo d’antiquariato, del periodo della regina Anna, ma pare che sia stato trovato decisamente bagnato. Sembra che uno dei due non abbia fatto a tempo, dopo un’abbondante libagione alcolica, a raggiungere la toilette.

Grazie. Possiedo un un solo lavoro dei "Pogues" ed è proprio quello in cui c'è "Fiesta". Di tutti i brani presenti in quell'album mi piace specialmente "Lullaby Of London".

io in questi giorni ho rispolverato "Hell's ditch" trovato usato su una bancarella, bello anche se inferiore secondo me a "Red Roses for me" , "Rum, sodomy and lash" e "if i should fall ..." (l'album che possiedi Tu)

l'ho sentito in un bel periodo della mia vita, a dispetto del testo ...

come preannunciato, è quasi sicura la presenza di MacGowan nella prossima pellicola dell'amico Johnny Depp intitolata "The Libertine". Non si sa ancora nulla del ruolo, nel film c'è anche John Malkovich.

Le scene con Shane sono state girate ad Aprile, il film è di prossima uscita... non penso che verranno tagliate

ciao moris (e'un po'di tempo che non ci si sente, eh !?!) e ciao a tutti, naturalmente !
sono appena tornato da glasgow dove ho passato 4 splendide giornate e mi sono goduto il ritorno dei Pogues in un'atmosfera da St.Patrick anni '80...
devo dire innanzitutto che glasgow mi ha folgorato ! citta'che da molti punti di vista mi ricorda la dublino che conobbi quando andai a viverci nel '98 e che ora non esiste praticamente piu'. la consiglio a tutti gli amanti delle poetiche "dirty old town"...
a glasgow la presenza della comunita' di sangue e cultura irlandese e'davvero forte. non a caso il concerto dei pogues a cui ho assistito e'stata un'esperienza incredibile !
il reunion gig dei pogues a cui ho assistito nel 2001 a dublino e che pure era stata un'esperienza eccezionale, in confronto al concerto di martedi'alla carling academy di glasgow e' stato davvero nulla.
tutto davvero perfetto! la band per la prima volta era totalmente al completo per via della presenza di una splendida cait o'riordan (protagonista solo dei primi anni di vita dei pogues). cait e'stata una sorpresa davvero piacevolissima che ha dato lustro e freschezza allo show: bella donna, molto affascinante, sa stare alla grande sul palco, splendida voce e incantevole con le sue danze. spider stacey invece porta in faccia il conto degli anni vissuti spericolatamente. molto invecchiato, quasi irriconoscibile ma entusiasta e carico come un ragazzino. e ovviamente shane, in gran forma e quasi sobrio come mai mi era capitato di vederlo prima (moris lo ricordera'completamente fuso a torino quest'estate con i popes. ma anche tutte le altre numerose volte in cui mi era capitato di vederlo con i popes era pressoche'devastato !).
il repertorio e'stato davvero stimolante: ai vari classici di sempre sono state aggiunte alcune chicche che shane non eseguiva da anni, neanche nei precedenti reunion gigs del 2001 e 2002. in particolare splendidi i duetti con cait per "i'm a man you don't meet every day" , "miss otis regrets" e la mitica "fairytale of new york". poi con "fiesta" in chiusura sembrava che l'arena dovesse cadere !...
gia' l'arena e il pubblico ! una vera bolgia. il posto era molto capiente e per due sere di fila e'stato pieno zeppo all'inverosimile. un pogo forsennato e compatto ha pervaso tutta la zona standing che alla fine era un unico enorme bagno di sudore. il colpo d'occhio offriva un mare di maglie del celtic glasgow e dell'irlanda e ogni tanto venivano intonate canzoni da stadio del celtic glasgow che rimbombavano quasi minacciose nell'arena ! tutto il pubblico cantava con shane e tutto il pubblico ha partecipato con entusiasmo a formare quella enorme bolgia infernale che ha fatto di uno splendido concerto un vero e'proprio evento.
a margine posso dirvi che su alcuni magazine di glasgow ho letto varie interviste a shane e spider stacey. i due dicono che non c'e' ancora nulla di concreto ma non escludono che i pogues possano tornare insieme anche per incidere del nuovo materiale. e la leggenda continua !...

Ho visto Shane coi Pogues e i Popes 5 volte e mai con la sontuosa Cate "Costello" O'Riordan, deve essere stata un'esperienza unica... nella bolgia di Glasgow poi

I Popes sono stati all'altezza o anche questa volta hanno fatto rimpiangere di brutto i Pogues ?

Sono io che ero talmente impegnato a rosicare che ho fatto una domanda del piffero.

Una curiosità : sul calendario ufficiale 2005 dei Simpsons, in uno dei mesi compare ritratto Shane MacGowan.

Riunione numero 2 per i Pogues. Dopo il tour natalizio del 2001, il gruppo, ancora una volta capitanato da Shane MacGowan, ha annunciato un nuovo tour, anch’esso natalizio. La band si esibirà il 13 e 14 dicembre a Glasgow, il 16 a Newcastle, il 17 a Birmingham, il 18 a Manchester, il 20 e 21 a Londra ed il 23 dicembre a Dublino. Mac si era allontanato (od era stato cacciato a calci nel sedere, a seconda delle versioni) dal gruppo nel ’91. La band aveva vivacchiato fino all’agosto ’96, per poi gettare la spugna. A fine 2001 Rockol pubblicava la notizia, ripresa dal “Guardian”, dell’eccellente show svolto da Mac e soci all’Academy di Manchester: “Due ore d’ottima musica, con Shane gran cerimoniere, guitto, saltimbanco e mattatore: canta, si dà una vassoiata sul cranio, balla “Fairytale of New York” ed infine conclude il trionfale ritorno come solo lui sa fare: con le parole “merry fuckin’ Christmas” ed un enorme cocktail. Voto al concerto: 5 stellette, il massimo”.

POGUES STAR IS INSPIRED BY BIBLE JOHN - Song may premiere at dancehall

Shane MacGowan, the former lead singer of the Pogues, has found musical inspiration in one of Scotland's most infamous serial killers.
The singer, who is in Glasgow this weekend to perform at the Celtic Connections music festival, is writing a song about Bible John, the killer of three women in the late 1960s whose identity has eluded detectives.
MacGowan is currently writing the song, which will be called Bible John, so that it can appear on his next album after being told details of the case by his manager.
The singer songwriter, whose most famous song is the christmas hit " a Fairytale of New York", is a regular visitor to the city and has previously penned songs about his admiration for Glasgow and Celtic Football Club.
He could give the song its first public performance tomorrow night at the Barrowland, the dancehall where Bilble John preyed on his victims, although the co-writer, Joey Cashman, said it is far from complete.
Cashman, the former tour manager of the Pogues and MacGowan's personal manager, suggested the subject after being told about the details of the killings on a recent visit to the city.
The song will appear on the singer's next album with his new band, The Popes, with whom he is playing tonight.
Police believe the murders of Patricia Docker, 25, Jemima McDonald, 32, and Helen Puttock, 29, in Glasgow between 1968 and 1969 were committed by one man. The bodies were found after the women had been at the Barrowland ballroom, in the Gallowgate area. The case is still considered to be active by police.
The continuing search for the killer, named because he was said to quote from the Bible, was highlighted at christmas when it was revealed a number of suspects from the original inquiry had been approached to give DNA samples.
Cashman said: "The song is still at the early development stage, and if it is good enough it will probably be on his next album and maybe part of the (live) set in the next couple of months.
"I came across the story by accident and researched it a bit and that's when I got Shane involved.
"I've worked with him for 19 years and it's the first song we've worked on together.
"Shane was interested because of the killer's name, because the killer used to pick up his victims from the Barrowlands, and the fact that it all remains unsolved".
It will complete a loose trilogy of Glasgow-inspired songs. In April last year, MacGowan recorded Road to Paradise for Jimmy Johnstone, the ex-Celtic player who is suffering from motor neurone disease, and filmed the video for the single around pubs in the east end of the city.
The follow-up single, Tomorrow Belongs To Me, was also inspired by Glasgow.
John McLaughlin, another songwriter and collaborator with MacGowan, recently said: " I was amazed at Shane's knowledge of Glasgow. He even knew about the old gangs like the Tongs."
Cashman added that the singer knew about the killer. "I don't know how Shane will tell the story of Bible John, but I can say one thing - I think by his appearance and manner people think Shane is dim, but you look at many of his lyrics and he is obviously not."

Da un po' di tempo ho in mente di fare una cover band dei pogues e vicinanze, gang, Mcr, dubliners ecc. Un chitarrista c'è e pure il batteraio chi si unisce. Zona Torino....

per quanto riguarda il serial killer, Bible John é tuttora molto presente nell'immaginario collettivo scozzese (per fare paragoni con l'italia tipo il nostro Pacciani , anche se ha compiuto "solo" 3 omicidi , peraltro efferati ) a tal punto che può capitare di sentire ancora adesso battutine su di Lui, avvolto sempre in un alone di mistero e di leggenda!
il noto Giallista scozzese Ian Rankin ha qualche anno fà narrato in una delle sue opere proprio di un emule del Bible John

Questa me l’ha raccontata un carissimo amico: alla Fnac di Milano ha visto che espongono tutti i cd dei Pogues: li guarda e vede che ad ogni cd sono state aggiunte 3-4 tracks inedite; ovviamente, essendo un patito dei Pogues, non può lasciarsele scappare, salvo poi, a casa, sentire la puzza di fregatura visto che lui ha già tutti i cd dei Pogues!!!
In un cd c’è la tracks che i Pogues hanno dedicato ai Boys In Green per Italia ’90: mi pare si chiami Jack’s Heroes.
