Best ever Irish Olympic Alpine Ski Performance !

In last night's Olympic Slalom, Kirsten notched up the best Olympic Alpine Ski point score of any Irish racer to date.
Her international points mean that she performed closer to the Olympic winner than Pauli Schwarzacher-Joyce who raced Super G and Downhill in Salt Lake 2002, and Nagano1998. Kirsten's score also places her closer than her sister Tamsen who competed in 2002 Slalom and Giant Slalom, and current team mate Thos Foley's Giant Slalom slalom score this week.
Kirsten hopes to further improve on these points in tomorrow's Giant Slalom despite continued flu type symptoms and a new injury today - when Kirsten, who prepares her own skis- received emergency medical treatment for a laceration sustained during ski preparation. Her right hand will be strapped heavily for tomorrow's event.

24 February 2006 - Game(s) Over! Mission succesfully completed
Irish ski fans were over the moon today with another great performance from Kirsten in the Olympic Giant Slalom where an injured hand, flu symptoms, and a hefty whack on the hip from a gate during run 1 did nothing to dampen Kirsten's drive for a good time on run 2.
Conditions on the Colle piste in Sestriere were exacting, with heavy snow falling, poor visibility and the racing line detriorating fast with every skier that passed - which upset the leader table and made impossible the predicted battle between Maria Rienda and Anja Paerson who's start positions on the second run meant they couldn't make up enough time on earlier starters.
Kirsten's final finish position was 32nd, from a start list of 65 names.
The Games completed Kirsten moves on to more races and training with the aim of further reducing her international points before the end of the season.

9 March 2006 - Still recovering from 'Olympic Flu'
An allergic reaction to anti-biotics has further delayed a return to full health for Kirsten who is anxious to lose no time from the season. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
02/03/06 The bug which zapped the energy of many Olympians, including Kirsten, still has a hold so she is resting and recuperating in Chatel. The plan is to resume a full programme of training and competition next week.
