Q1. What is my PPS No.?
A1. Your PPS No. is your Personal Public Service Number. It is a unique identifier for use in any transactions you may have with public bodies or persons authorised by those bodies to act on their behalf. Use of the number eliminates the possibility of confusing one person with another and makes it possible for public bodies to deal in a faster and more efficient manner with their customers.

Q2. How do I find out what my PPS No. is?
A2. Your PPS No. can be found on tax documents and it is often on correspondence from a social welfare or tax office. It may also be on your payslip.

Q3. I've looked for my number and I still can't find it – what should I do?
A3. You should contact your nearest or most convenient Social Welfare office. To find the address of your local offices consult the green pages of the telephone directory, or consult the DSFA website List of Local Offices.

Q4. I have just arrived in Ireland and don't have a number. How do I get one?
A4. You should contact your nearest or most convenient Social Welfare office who will assist you with the registration process. You will be asked to produce documentary evidence of identity and residence in this country. Q5. What is the format of the PPS No.?
A5. A PPS No. is always 7 numbers, and followed by either one or two letters. If there are two letters, the second letter is always a letter 'W'.

Q6. What am I supposed to use my PPS No. for?
A6. Your PPS No. should only be used in transactions with Government Departments and Agencies or persons or bodies that they have authorised to act on their behalf.(See Appendix B))

Q7. Who can ask me for my PPS No.?
A7. You can only be asked for your PPS No. by one of the agencies listed in Appendix B or by an authorised agent of one of these bodies. Your employer will also use your PPS No. for the purposes of advising Revenue and DSFA of your tax deductions and PRSI contributions.

Q8. What should I do if someone asks me for my PPS No?
A8. You should provide them with your number once you are satisfied that they are entitled to ask for it. In this regard you may find it helpful to refer to the list of agencies here. In any case of doubt, you should contact Client Identity Services in the Department of Social and Family Affairs for clarification.

Q9. What do I do if someone who is not entitled to use the PPS No. asks me for it?
A9. If you believe that a person asking for your PPS No. is not entitled to do so, do not give them your number until you have contacted Client Identity Services of the Department of Social and Family Affairs, Gandon House, Amiens St, Dublin 1, Tel:704 3236 for advice. You can also email us at cis@welfare.ie

Q10. When should I not use my PPS No.?
A10. You should not use your PPS No. or Social Services Card in ordinary commercial transactions. For example, the number or the Social Services Card should not be requested by or given to a retailer as proof of identity or for any other reason when making a purchase, availing of a hiring service etc.

Q11. Can the Gardaí ask me for my PPS No.?
A11. Social Welfare legislation provides that members of An Garda Siochána and the Defence Forces are only entitled to use the PPS No. in respect of their own members. However, under the Immigration Act 2003 the PPS No. can be used by An Garda Siochána in respect of non-EU nationals.

Q12. Am I obliged to provide the number if a public body asks for it?
A12. Yes. Once an agency is entitled to use the number, a person who has a transaction with that agency must provide the number on request.

Q13. How come the banks were collecting the number when the SSIA scheme was being arranged?
A13. The banks were entitled to collect the PPS No. for the purposes of the Special Savings Incentive Account scheme and for that purpose only. The SSIA scheme is administered by the Department of Finance and the banks are acting as agents of that Department in this regard. Because the PPS No. is a unique identifier, using the PPS No. in connection with the scheme ensures that no one person can avail of the incentive more than once.

Q14. So can a bank or building society ask me for my PPS No. for any other reason?
A14. Yes. These would be where an account holder has a loan on which they are claiming tax relief on the interest paid, for example a mortgage or home improvement loan. In order that the Revenue Commissioners can correctly apply the Tax Relief at Source (TRS) provisions to such a loan, some Financial Institutions notify the interest details to Revenue using the PPS No. as a unique identifier. Note that not all Financial Institutions use the PPS No. in this regard.

The Regulations implementing the EU Taxation of Savings Income Directive require Financial Institutions (Banks, Building Societies, Credit Unions etc.) to establish the identity of prospective customers. In order to comply with the document retention requirement contained in the Regulations, Financial Institutions may retain a manual record or a photocopy of a document containing the PPS Number. The PPS Number must not be recorded on the bank's computer system and the PPS Number must not be used by the bank for any other purpose.

Q15. Is it possible for me to get a new number?
A15. No. Once a PPS No. is allocated it is never changed. If you cannot find your PPS No. you should contact your nearest or most convenient Social Welfare Office for assistance.

Q16. Is the PPS No. a National ID?
A16. No. The PPS No. is not a national identity. It is designed to be used as a service enabler for the purposes of public service administration. The number forms an essential element of your Public Service Identity (PSI) which provides a speedy efficient means of establishing identity for the purposes of access to and dealings with all public service bodies. The PSI comprises the PPS No. and a defined set of personal data. Your PSI is to be used exclusively in dealings with public bodies or with agents acting on behalf of public bodies.

Dunque, in un suo topic sumero aveva spiegato la necessità di prendere un pps number per lavorare in Irlanda, dicendo che serviva per ottenere poi il tax certificated.

Vengo al mio dubbio. Ipotizziamo che io abbia trovato un lavoro decente, abbia ottenuto prima il mio bravo pps number e poi il tax certificated compilato dal mio datore di lavoro.
Che succede se dopo un po' cambio lavoro? Il pps immagino rimanga uguale, ma devo per caso ottenere un nuovo tax certificated?

sinceramente non so nulla del tax cert. ma suppongo che il nuovo datore di lavoro si occupi della cosa e non il lavoratore.
come dicevo la burocrazia in eire e' ridotta al minimo e fin'ora la mia azienda si e' occupata di tutto senza mandare me in giro per sportelli.

In xerox servono conoscenze di base , buono/ottimo uso del pc , buon inglese, conoscenze di informatica di base tipo cosa e' la ram , la rom , etc.

Your new employer must deduct tax from your pay under the PAYE system. To make sure that your tax is properly dealt with from the start and that your employer deducts the right amount of tax from your pay you should do two things:

* Give your employer your PPS No. (Personal and Public Service Number), formerly your RSI No. He/she will then let the tax office know that you have started work.

* Apply for a certificate of tax credits by completing Form 12A (Application for a Certificate of Tax Credits and Standard Rate Cut-Off Point) and sending it to your district office. Ask your employer for a form 12A. Your employer will tell you to which tax office the completed form 12A should be sent. If your employer does not have a form 12A, you can get one from any district office or telephone 1890 306706.


Ideally, you should do all this as soon as you accept an offer of a job - even if it is only part-time or holiday employment. This will give your employer and the tax office time to get things sorted out before your first pay-day.

The tax office will send you a Certificate of Tax Credits and Standard Rate Cut-Off Point, which sets out in detail the amount of tax credits due to you. The tax office will also send a Certificate of Tax Credits and Standard Rate Cut-Off Point to your employer which shows the total amount of your tax credits.

Salve a tutti sono nuova di qui. Che bello però vedere un forum dove si può parlare dell'irlanda e scambiare info.

A metà settembre partirò per l'Irlanda e il mio obiettivo è di stabilirmi là per sempre.

Sto impazzendo riguardo al PPS ovvero quello che molti chiamano il codice fiscale irlandese che serve per lavorare (e non solo). Come cavolo si fa ad ottenere prima ancora di avere un lavoro? Devi per forza richiederlo dopo averlo trovato o si può richiedere appena si arriva là andando ad un qualunque ufficio del Welfare?

Una mia amica mi ha detto che dal momento che lo chiedi te lo danno nel giro di un paio di settimane (così per due settimane hai lo stipendio dimezzato dato che ti trattengono il 42% come emergency tax che poi ti ridanno....almeno questo).

Entro quanto si trova un lavoro? E quali sono i siti migliori per trovarlo online in modo da ottenere (se si è fortunati) qualche colloquio ancora prima di partire?

Ho davvero bisogno di tutte le informazioni possibili. Qualunque avete ditemela!!!! Mi faccio un giro nel forum nel frattempo.

quindi vuol dire che io posso anche arrivare là, il giorno dopo mi faccio scrivere la lettera dal landlord e con gli altri documenti posso andare a richiedere il PPS senza ancora aver trovato lavoro? Spero vivamente che mi dirai si cosi finalmente potrò saltare dalla gioia!

fare il PPs e una cavolata. vai all'uffico con 1 documento (2 per Cork) lettera del landlord che dice che tu abiti in quella casa a quell'indirizzo e una ricevuta di una bolletta della luce o telefono o gas dell'appartamento dove vivi. chiedi allo sportello,per farlo ci vogliono 10 minuti, poi ti arriva a casa dopo una settimana, il tutto anche se nn hai lavoro, e ti dico che se l'ho fatto io che in tre mesi e mezzo di cazzeggio ho lavorato solo 8 giorni vai tranquilla. ciao

ma veramente nel posto in cui vado a vivere non pago bollette che io sappia però pago l'affitto. E poi mi è stato detto che al posto della bolletta posso presentare il mio certificato di nascita. Vado in una guest house per un pò anche perchè quando ho guardato i prezzi di case e appartamenti (anche shared houses) mi è venuto un colpo La parola speculazione direi che va più che bene. Monolocali (credo fossero monolocali) con affitti da 200 Euro a settimana (alcuni al mese). Oh ma mia sorella qui pagava 600 Euro di affitto...al MESE!!!

la bolletta la paghi al 99% arriva una volta ogni due mesi e se la metti a nome tuo basta solo quello!

Per avere il PPS (vedi 3d di O'Connor sulle delusioni irlandesi) non ci vuole una bolletta. basta una lettera di chi ti ospita unita ad ua SUA bolletta. Se stai in un ostello, sono sicura che hanno lettere standard per ottenerlo. Ricordatevi sempre che l'IRLANDA NON E' BUROCRATICA COME L'ITALIA!

siccome sto per traslocare comincia anche la trafila burocratica, sapete se e' obbligatorio comunicare il nuovo indirizzo all'ufficio del welfare al fine di aggiornarlo sul PPS number o a loro non frega una cippa di questa cosa? e se e' necessario comunicarlo, come bisogna fare? non vorrei infatti andare di persona e perdere una giornata di lavoro se c'e'un altro modo.
se qualcuno si e' trovato nella stessa situazione mi dia un consiglio per piacere.

Ho letto in qualche topic ( non ricordo quale) che il PPS NUMBER lo si deve rinnovare ogni inizio anno.
Domanda: se io arrivo a Dublino a Settembre/Ottobre e mi faccio il PPS, dovrò poi rifarlo subito a Gennaio come ho letto o dura un anno da quando lo si fa??

Non so se e' gia' stato scritto.
Io ho appena richiesto il mio pps number e grazie ai miei housemates ho scoperto che per Dulino 6, 6W e 12 ci si deve rivolgere all'ufficio del Welfare in Bishop Street.
Bishop Street e' una traversa di Aungier Street.
Spero possa essere utile a qualcuno per risparmiarvi un po' di tempo.
