ARGENTINEAN FUNDRAISING EVENT – 9th July 2005
We are the Argentinean Community living in Ireland and people from other different countries also living in Ireland, who got together with the purpose of finding ways to help our compatriots in Argentina.
Argentina is nowdays a developing country where, as stated on the “Argentina – Crisis and Poverty 2003 – A Poverty Assessment” report from the World Bank:
“The rate of poverty as traditionally measured rose from 37% in 2001 to a peak 58% by the end of 2002.”
Our intention is to raise funds in Ireland in order to support local NGO’s in their fight against poverty. Having this objective in mind, we will be celebrating our Independence Day, on Saturday the 9th July. On this day, 9th July 1816, Argentineans achieved our Independence from the Spanish Crown.
In 2003 and in order to celebrate our national day, we organized a similar event where we raised around €3.000. Half of the money raised covered expenses (rent of the place where the event took place, insurance, food and drinks, etc.). The other half was donated to
www.diezeuros.org, an NGO created by Argentineans that distribute food to children’s homes.
In 2004 we celebrated our national day on Sunday the 13th June. We raised more then €6.000 in the event. More than €1.000 covered the expenses and the rest was distributed to four different NGOs in Argentina:
In 2005 we will celebrate our Independence Day on Saturday 9th July. The event will begin at noon and finish at 7 PM. We will start by having a lunch: locro (traditional Argentinean stew), cakes and mate (herbal infusion). There will be tango and folk played by Argentinean and Irish musicians, accompanied by professional tango dancers. Finally, guests will be invited to join and dance tango and other typical Argentinean rhythms.
The celebration will take place in Rathgar Christ Church, Rathgar Road, Dublin 6. The ticket price is €20 for adults and €5 for children. Tickets can be bought at Amnesty International’s shop in Sean MacBride House, 48 Fleet Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. There will be a maximum of 200 tickets, due to space limitation
All the money raised will be donated to the NGO
www.diezeuros.org. This event will help this NGO to purchase large amounts of food over the Internet to be distributed to different children homes in Argentina.
Our intention with this document is to approach Irish organizations that are willing to collaborate with, either money or products. If preferred, money can be sent directly by donors to the NGO. If that was the case, we will provide you with bank account details.
We are committed to provide donors with all the accounting details, copies of invoices and money transfer certificates in order to ensure transparency and trust.
Please, feel free to contact us in case you have any questions or for further references.
