Qualche filmato per ricordare il quinto Beatle.

Si sveglia di notte e grida: «Cielo, mio marito!». Inquietante, considerato che lei è Alex, la vedova del campione irlandese di calcio Best, morto l'anno scorso

Alex, Gina e Ros: tutte le donne di George Best pare siano terrorizzate dal fantasma dell'ex campione del Manchester United, scomparso lo scorso anno all'età di 59 anni in seguito alle complicazioni legate all'abuso di alcool.

Stando infatti alle testimonianze dell'ex moglie e delle amanti di Best, pare che lo spirito inquieto del trapassato si aggiri di notte nelle loro case: «È cominciato tutto la notte in cui è morto - ha raccontato l'ex fidanzata Ros -: il giradischi si è acceso e si è messo a suonare She di Elvis Costello. Era la nostra canzone. Poi le luci e la tv hanno cominciato ad accendersi e spegnersi e una porta si è aperta».

Doccia e rubinetti che si aprono e fanno scrosciare acqua senza che nessuno li abbia toccati terrorizzano l'ex moglie Alex, mentre l'agente e miglior amico dell'ex campione, Phil Hughes, ha dichiarato di essere rimasto senza fiato quando una mano misteriosa ha spostato il suo mobile-bar.

Gina, altra amante del "quinto Beatle", ha temuto di «esser diventata pazza» quando «una serie di cose strane sono cominciate ad accadere a casa mia - ha raccontato al domenicale britannico News of The World -. Ma dopo che ho parlato con lo spiritista, e ho saputo che anche Ros, Alex e Phil hanno avuto simili esperienze, sono sicura al 100% che si tratta del fantasma di George».

«Maniglie impazzite, la cassetta delle lettere che si apre e si chiude attorno alle 23.15, l'ora in cui di solito veniva da me, ubriaco - ha continuato Gina, in un resoconto pubblicato oggi sul Corriere della Sera -. Ho trovato la televisione capovolta. Una volta ero seduta in cucina quando il pallone che George aveva regalato alle mie figlie ha cominciato a palleggiare per 20 volte».

Non solo. Gina sostiene di averlo proprio visto, Best, giovane, magro e sorridente sul proprio letto, «con indosso la maglietta rossa del Manchester». «George mi ha sempre detto - ha riferito Gina - che un giorno sarebbe tornato e adesso sta mantenendo la sua promessa».

Secondo il medium consultato dall'ex fidanzata del giocatore «Best ha decisamente un grande senso dell'umorismo: gli piace fare qualche scherzo , ma è anche dispiaciuto per come ha trattato Gina, e vuole farle capire che esiste una vita dopo la morte». La cosa curiosa è che a tutti i protagonisti di questa vicenda spiritistica è sparito il passaporto: quale sarà, a questo proposito, il messaggio subliminale di quel mattacchione di George?

George Best tribute fund launched

A special fund has been launched for the public to help finance a new statue in Belfast city centre in tribute to soccer star George Best who died last year.

It is hoped the statue will be unveiled on the second anniversary of George's death.

Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez was on hand at Belfast City Hall as he helped kick off the appeal for the £200,000 needed to erect the life size statue of Northern Ireland's favourite footballing son.

Lawrie Sanchez said: "I met him several times after he retired. He was always generous and the thing that people always say is that he was down to earth.

"He was a superstar, he was the fifth beetle but he didnt carry any pretentions."

The statue project is being organised by the George Best Memorial Trust - not to be confused with the George Best Foundation which is raising money for research into liver disease

George's sister, Barbara McNarry, said: "We're still getting visitors daily to my father's house, just wanting to see a little bit of George and where he was born and where he was brought up.

"But I feel that a statue would be perfect because the people really have something tangible then and something they can go and look at.

"It's a brilliant idea."

David Healy, the Patron of the Memorial Trust sent a video message of support and IFA President Jim Boyce who is on the trust committee defended the plea to the public to fund the statue.

He said: "It's giving the public the opportunity if they want to contribute, even in a small way to do so.

"But as I've said before even if people feel that they don't want to contribute to it that's their choice but I still sincerely hope that that's not going to be the case."

It's hoped that there will be a sculptor appointed by March and that their statue will be unveiled on the 2nd anniversary of Georges death in November next year.

Initially it is hoped to erect the statue here at the front of the City Hall but because of redevelopment plan George may have to be transferred.

ciao a tutti. sono nuovo di questo forum. ma volevo dire la mia. personalmente non amo confondere il privato con la carriera dei calciatori (e altri "artisti"). e' vero best ha sprecato due doni preziosi che gli sono stati regalati: il suo talento prima e il trapianto dopo e per questo avra' sempre la mia rabbia. pero' e' un calciatore ed avra' sempre il mio apprezzamento come tale. un genio assoluto. un talento vero e puro.

I'm very sorry my son but it's all for the Best

SOCCER star George Best left just a commemorative watch to his playboy son Calum in his will.

Even though the will has yet to be finalised, all the cash he had will go to his sister Barbara McNarry after debts are cleared.

Grant of probate, which was issued in London yesterday, includes publication of Best's will, but it is likely to be some time before all his affairs are tied up.

Calum, (25), is to get just the engraved 1994 Jean Lassel World Cup watch.

Best's gross estate is estimated at just over stg£500,000 (€758,000). The net sum, which will be much less once all his liabilities have been addressed, will go to Barbara.

Her Belfast-based solicitor, Paul Tweed, said yesterday: "Until the administration of the estate is finalised, my client will not know the actual net sum available for distribution. This is likely to take several weeks to be resolved."

Best died 14 months ago aged 59 after a long battle against alcoholism.

Barbara, who runs a special charity foundation in memory of the former Manchester United star, has known about her brother's will for some time, according to Mr Tweed.

He said: "However, she and her husband (Norman) have been concentrating their time and energy on their work for the foundation.

"Until the assets of the estate have been realised and the liabilities discharged, my client will not be in a position to decide, and therefore comment, on her future intentions.

"In the meantime, the George Best Foundation will remain her absolute priority."

Best had been living in a flat in Chelsea when he died at London's Cromwell Hospital in November 2005. His marriage to his wife Alex Best ended in 2004 after nine years.

The George Best Egg

Sarah Fabergé, great-granddaughter of Russian Imperial Jeweller Carl Fabergé created the George Best Egg in homage to Manchester United and Northern Ireland’s greatest ever player, and in support of the George Best Foundation.
