Ireland's dry run for next month's crucial pair of World Cup qualifiers ended in a soggy second-half mess as Norway came from behind to cancel out Robbie Keane's goal and secure a 1-1 draw in Oslo.
But captain Keane, maintaining his scoring run under Giovanni Trapattoni, argued that there were more positives than negatives.
"The first half was very good. We got to grips with the game in the first 15 minutes but I really thought that the 30 minutes before half-time was very good, we played some good football and held control of the ball very well.
"But I think the conditions in the second half completely ruined the game. We were in control of the game and could have scored a couple more."
The sloppy goal conceded to Tore Reginuissen on the hour -- for which Kevin Kilbane and Dean Kiely shared the blame afterwards -- undid much of the patient endeavour created by Ireland in the previous hour, during which Keane got his 34th international goal and second in successive matches under Trapattoni.
"Unfortunately we don't want to concede any goals to any team. We'll remember the first half and try to completely forget the second half. Looking at the team today, it should stand us in good stead for the next few weeks," said Keane.
"With the players we have, we're capable of playing like that next month. It's the way the players want to play. If we can play like that in the next two games, we're capable of getting something out of them."
Steven Reid's return to the national team after two years produced a display of quality midfield play which guarantees him a place against Georgia and Montenegro -- if he can stay fit.
