Unfortunately Mark has retired from the Giro d’Italia today.The Sligoman,who was drafted in as a very late replacement for teamamte Philip Deignan,completed the first 11 stages of the Giro,but abondoned during today’s stage on the road to Sestri Levante.Before the event he had expressed concerns about his participation,saying he would probably only last half the major tour.Indeed he seemed to struggle on some of the hillier and more difficult stages of the race,but each day he completed the course in one of the toughest Giros in recent memory.

Hopefully he can now rest,recover and return to racing

Nicholas Roche (born July 3, 1984) in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine France) is an Irish professional road bicycle racer, currently riding for Cofidis. Nicholas turned professional at the end of the year 2004, and became one of the youngest Pro-Tour racer at the time. During his first two years and because of his young age, he often had the role of a domestique, but he did manage to get a few good results. His first win as a professional racer was a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir. He just signed a two-year contract with Crédit Agricole.

Belfast cyclist David McCann finished in third place overall in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour event in Australia.
The Belfast rider had gone into the final stage just one second behind leader Chris Jongewaard and on the same time as 2005 winner Simon Gerrans.

Gerrans clinched overall victory with Jongewaard in second with McCann 14 seconds off the pace in the end.

It rounded off a fine season for McCann in the Giant Asia team during which he won the Tour of Indonesia.

The 33-year-old also claimed the Irish road race title for the third time.

Team BHB rider Lewis Ferguson won the J C Campbell Ulster Cyclo Cross Championship at a cold and blustery Kilbroney Park on Saturday. The race was dominated by Ferguson and North Down’s Ray Brownfield, both riders suffering punctures during a thrilling battle for the title. The Rostrevor venue once again proved highly popular with the riders, a fast but testing course being laid out by organisers Newry Wheelers.

Negli ultimi giorni che concludono l'anno, il FELT-International MTB Team si è fatto un'altro regalo ingaggiando un'interessante promessa della mountain bike, l'irlandese Connor Mc Convey, che nel 2008 è stato uno degli atleti in lizza per rappresentare la propria nazione ai Giochi Olimpici di Pechino.

19 anni di Belfast, Connor Mc Convey è certamente uno degli atleti su cui gli appassionati irlandesi ripongono le maggiori attenzioni, considerandolo il bikers più accreditato a raccogliere l'eredità di chi ha rappresentato l'Irlanda per tanti anni nella mountain bike, Robin Seymour, tra il 2003 e il 2008 quindici volte consecutive Campione Nazionale. Il ragazzo di Belfast ha già iniziato a insidiare il veterano di Wicklow, combattendo con lui nell'ultima stagione per la conquista dei titoli nazionali di mountain bike e ciclocross, terminando secondo in entrambi le gare titolate.
25° assoluto, secondo Under 23 nella UCI World Cup a Bromont, Connor Mc Convey ha conquistato nel 2008 in Canada il suo primo podio in Coppa del Mondo, diventato il miglior risultato per l'Irlanda nella series iridata.

Mc Convey disse allora dopo la gara 'Quello di oggi è stato il mio miglior risultato internazionale, ero venuto in Canada per vincere la categoria Under 23, ma anche stappare il magnum del secondo posto sul podio mi esalta.
Avevo una buona condizione e ora comincio anche a imparare come affrontare queste corse e cosa aspettarmi dal mio fisico'.

73° nel Ranking UCI 2008 con 300 punti, 58° classificato in Coppa del Mondo (6° Under 23), 21° Under 23 ai Mondiali in Val di Sole, Connor Mc Convey ha firmato con FELT-International MTB Team un contratto quadriennale, acquistando con l'ingresso nel team ufficiale FELT una prima credenziale per le prossime Olimpiadi di Londra 2012.
Connor Mc Convey durante la stagione 2009 risiederà in Francia, a Fayance, vicino a Miguel Martinez che sarà per l'irlandese un trainer d'eccezione e un suo prezioso compagno di allenamenti.
