Baby seal delays Derry flight

Derry home comers were forced to hover around the city's airport this New Year's Eve thanks to a seal!

Their Ryanair flight was told it could not land because the pup had decided to stake a spot on the airport's runway.

The pup was first spotted making a break for the runway the night before New Year's Eve but staff moved it back to the nearby river Foyle.
"They were surprised when it appeared on the runway again the following day," a spokeswoman for the council said.

It is thought that severe weather may have disorientated the seal which is now safe and well in Portaferry's Exploris Aquarium.
