Brendan McLaughlin - Confined to a wheelchair in his house in Gobnascail near Derry after a stroke six years ago. His views on his former comrades? "McGuiness, Adams, I know 'em all - scum b*******. They're selling out. I'll never change. The war will never end."
Pat Sheehan - Now runs a small business and is married with a young child. His views? "There is no need for the IRA any longer. I am proud that I took up arms; I believed it was the right thing to do."
Lawrence McKeown - Now works for a national network of republican ex-prisoners. Got together with a woman who visited him in jail and they have two children. Also written plays and screenplays and writes a newspaper column for the Daily Ireland. Co-founded the Belfast Film Festival.
Paddy Quinn - Can't work - had a kidney transplant. Lives in a farmhouse in County Down with his wife and two girls. Eyesight permanently damaged by the hunger strike.
Gerard Hodgins - Lives in a flat in Belfast. Works for the Department of Learning and Education as a mentor in a job assistance scheme.
Jackie McMullan - Worked with Sinn Fein on education programmes for ex-prisoners and is involved with community work.
John Pickering - Cousin of Irish President Mary McAleese. Chief advisor on recent IRA movie 'I.R.A. King of Nothing'.
Bernard Fox - Recently resigned from the IRA army council. Before joining, he was the IRA's director of engineering with responsibility for developing weapons.
