    Beckett Centenary celebrations all'RDS
Samuel Beckett: His Life and Work

    with

    Barry McGovern

    Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 5.45 pm
    Merrion Room, RDS

As part of the celebration to mark the centenary of the birth of Samuel Beckett the RDS is delighted to host a talk by the renowned actor Barry McGovern who is regarded by many as the leading interpreter of the work of Beckett.
In April he will play Vladimir in Waiting for Godot at the Gate Theatre which also be part of the Beckett Centenary celebrations.

This talk is an event that will have informative views for both the regular theatre goers and those who have in the past found Beckett difficult or forbidding.

    LEPRECHAUNS A TEATRO

    THE CROCK OF GOLD
"Ireland is free, but the hearts and minds of her people are once more becoming enslaved. We are forgetting our gods, our history and each other. Mammon is the new god, and prosperity has come at a price. Perhaps it is time to listen to Angus Óg once more...

The three stories of The Crock of Gold – the Philosopher’s Journey, Caitilin’s Journey, and the theft of the crock of gold -are intertwined, and the play moves between all three until they’re drawn together and become one story."

    DOVE; DUBLIN, OLYMPIA THEATRE
    QUANDO: 14-25 MARZO

    Mostra personale dell'Irlandiana Diana Caramaschi
Fonte : Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Dublino

Diana Caramaschi presenta la sua prima mostra personale –Things That Go Bump in the Night- alla Ivy House, Drumcondra.

    1) The Taming of the Shrew di William Shakespeare (La bisbetica domata)

al Project Arts Centre fino al 25 marzo.
    www.project.ie/

[...]this is a hugely entertaining and vivid production that doesn't shy away from its more unsetting themes. A must-see

    2) The Bacchae of Baghdad di Euripide (Le Baccanti)

al The Abbey Theatre fino al 15 aprile.
    www.abbeytheatre.ie/whatson/bacchae.html

    THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST
    Provato ieri sera:

Culture Night, Dublin 2006 - Late Night Culture for All the Family

Dublin’s first ever Culture Night will take place on Friday 22nd September when almost 40 of the city’s leading museums, galleries, studios and theatres will throw open their doors until 9.00pm to encourage people who normally don’t do so to visit them and learn of the city’s rich cultural offering.

Details of Culture Night were announced today by Minister for Arts, Sport & Tourism, John O’Donoghue, TD in Temple Bar, Dublin’s Cultural Quarter.

From Monet in the Hugh Lane Gallery, to up and coming bands in the Temple Bar Music Centre, from Bog Bodies in the National Museum of Ireland, Archaeology to outdoor movies in Meeting House Square, from the Yeats Exhibition in the National Library to A Tribute to the Ryder Cup in Collins Barracks, from talks about The Abbey Theatre’s history to the ‘Morphathon’ kids animation workshop in Filmbase, and many more in between, Culture Night provides people with a great opportunity to reacquaint themselves or introduce themselves to the city’s vast cultural offering.

Culture Night is coordinated by Temple Bar Cultural Trust (TBCT), in association with the Council of National Cultural Institutions of Ireland.

This initiative has been running for many years in other major cities across Europe including Rome, Paris, Copenhagen etc, where thousands of people now flock annually to the city’s cultural venues on that night.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue TD said, “This is a fantastic occasion where people from all ages and walks of life can really learn about and enjoy the extensive cultural offering of Dublin City. People travel from all over the world to visit the city’s cultural venues and this is a chance for us to promote the rich heritage and culture of the city collectively. When combined it is an impressive array and with an incredible choice. I would encourage everyone to take the time to explore the participating venues and to make Culture Night a success.”

TBCT has developed three individual suggested routes around the city to help guide people to the various locations with ease. A ‘Culture Bus’ has been provided by the OPW to shuttle people around the city to the various venues on the evening.

Culture Night was the brain-child of Gráinne Millar, Head of Cultural Development, TBCT. According to Gráinne, “I have seen Culture Night grow from an initial concept with a couple of participants to a national event in many of the cities around Europe and I believe that Dublin is ready for this. There is an undercurrent of people wanting to explore and enjoy Dublin’s offering and I believe they will be pleasantly surprised to learn of the breadth and depth of the cultural resources in the City.

We have been hosting smaller scale Culture Nights in Temple Bar for the last two years and we felt, especially because it is the 15th anniversary of the area as Dublin’s Cultural Quarter, that we should celebrate the entire city’s cultural offering and coordinate Dublin’s first ever Culture Night.” She added.

This is the first year of what TBCT hopes will eventually become as successful as the well established Culture Nights across Europe.
