But then there's also something delightful about Luigi Lo Cascio... he's also quite attractive and so, so charming, though not as obviously handsome as Boni! This film is quite a sight for sore eyes, both for men and women!! (the actresses are beautiful too)
The cast, the music, the locations: beauty is everywhere. "Tutto è veramente bello."
Marco Tullio Giordana’s magisterial epic, The Best of Youth (La Meglio Gioventù) is a riveting, superbly acted drama following the experiences of two brothers through four decades of turbulent change, -personal, political and international – from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 2003
I have seen this movie yesterday (absolutely great!!), and we received some additional information with it. It seems that the director, Marco Tullio Giordana, didn't managed to sell 'La Meglio Gioventu' because it was regarded as too 'intellectual' for the Italian viewers. In other words, the quality of this tv-drama/movie was too high. Unbelievable..
It always blows me away how much the entertainment institutions underestimate the public, in this case the Italian public
We recently had an Italian film festival over here in Adelaide -Australia, and this was one of the movies that was shown. I couldn't believe how a good a movie it was, and I really would love to buy it.
Same thing in France: the film broke the record of audience per copy. They rushed in additional copies; in Paris, it stayed more than one year in cinemas. Up to the end, theaters were full, although spectators had to read subtitles for two sessions of 3 hours each. (But subtitles are not a big problem, really, although this is another topic.)
I like the film very much, but Rai is unlikely to broadcast it as a mini TV series soon!
LMG is deep and accurate and sensitive on psychology, and so is R&R, but Giordana, who is beautifully showing things, is not trying to explain them. Desplechin also is accurately showing, but he gives you numerous hints for you to forge an explanation. Will the marketing people abroad fear the game is too eyebrow?
