Loach to shoot new film in Ireland

Ken Loach is to shoot his new film 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' in Cork next month.

Screen Daily reports that the film is set in Ireland during the early 1920s and looks at the turbulent years through the eyes of a family and a guerrilla unit.

Commenting on the Civil War drama, Loach's regular producer, Rebecca O'Brien, said: "The film is based on real events but it is the war in microcosm, not historically word perfect."

The script for the film has been written by Loach's regular collaborator, Paul Laverty, and has a budget in the €5m to €7m range.

Hi Fergus,

Dunno if ull be able to help me but im asking anyway!

Last year, back in April or May, dont remember exactly, a movie has been shot in Cork.

It was about the right to stop a pregnancy and the right to live (for the baby) and it has been shot around the eastern side of the River Lee.

Some friends were participating and Im wondering to know what happened next, so, I mean, what is the title of this movie? Has it reached the blockbuster's channel? Is it a DVD or what?

Unfortunately I am not able to tell anything more bcuz I dont have more details but if U do know prolly U understood what movie it is and if U did, can U please help me to find this movie?

Thanks a zillion!

Loach's Irish film tipped for Cannes

Ken Loach's Irish War of Independence drama 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' has been mentioned as one of the potential films for competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The Festival takes place from 17 to 28 May and the competition films will be announced next month.

'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' stars Cillian Murphy and Liam Cunningham as brothers involved in the guerrilla war against the Black and Tans.

It is set in Ireland during the early 1920s and looks at the turbulent years through the eyes of a family and a guerrilla unit.

This is Loach's first historical film since Spanish Civil War story 'Land and Freedom' (1995) and was written by Loach's longtime collaborator Paul Laverty.

La canzone da cui prende il titolo il film

WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY

I sat within a valley green
Sat there with my true love
And my fond heart strove to choose between
The old love and the new love
The old for her, the new that made
Me think on Ireland dearly
While soft the wind blew down the glade
And shook the golden barley

Twas hard the mournful words to frame
To break the ties that bound us
Ah, but harder still to bear the shame
Of foreign chains around us
And so I said, "The mountain glen
I'll seek at morning early
And join the brave united men"
While soft wind shook the barley

Twas sad I kissed away her tears
Her arms around me clinging
When to my ears that fateful shot
Come out the wildwood ringing
The bullet pierced my true love's breast
In life's young spring so early
And there upon my breast she died
While soft wind shook the barley

I bore her to some mountain stream
And many's the summer blossom
I placed with branches soft and green
About her gore-stained bosom
I wept and kissed her clay-cold corpse
Then rushed o'er vale and valley
My vengeance on the foe to wreak
While soft wind shook the barley

Twas blood for blood without remorse
I took at Oulart Hollow
I placed my true love's clay-cold corpse
Where mine full soon may follow
Around her grave I wondered drear
Noon, night and morning early
With aching heart when e'er I hear
The wind that shakes the barley
