Read Truth, Power and Lies, by Tom Inglis (http://www.ucdpress.ie/ucdpress/socialsciences.asp, lark.phoblacht.net/som2801057g.html), all about the Kerry Babies' case. It's really a frightening story. I also saw on RTE a documentary about it, some time ago. There was an interview with that poor woman (I don't remember the name) at the Late Late Show. [SM=g27813]
If you come from that area, I am not surprised you're disgusted by religion and morality. In a way, my husband is too, he comes from rural Ireland, North Cork. [SM=g27813]
A lot of people from abroad don't realise this contradictions: that's why it's so difficult for them to grasp the essence of contemporary Ireland. That's it, a contradiction in terms.
It's nice to talk to you, write more often... and come to Cork, the home of hurling [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828]

Hi Cairrean and welcome in this forum!
I know, in every village there's some musicians or singers. To discovery these it's important to go to the local trad session!
I love Johnny O'Leary and Seamus Begley.
Ok, O'Leary it's dead sometimes ago, but his music, it's quiet and peacefull. Seamus... oh... it's great! It's a lovely man and musician, and when he play it's impossible to not dance.
Another musician it's Kieran Kissane: do you know? Great!
Do you know North Cregg Band from Cork?
When I return in Ireland with my wife, sure we stop some days in Kerry area.

Posted yesterday by my beloved (Irish) sister in law...
[SM=g27822]
ITALIAN COOKIES

For all the Italians out there, or those who are married to an Italian, or partner to an Italian, or friends of Italians. . .

An elderly Italian man lay dying in his bed. While suffering the agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite Italian anisette sprinkle cookies wafting up the stairs.

Gathering his remaining strength, he lifted himself from the bed.

Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort, gripping the railing with both hands,he crawled downstairs. With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen. Where if not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out upon waxed paper on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite
anisette sprinkled cookies.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted Italian wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table, landing on his knees in a crumpled posture.

His parched lips parted, the wondrous taste of the cookie was already in his mouth, seemingly bringing him back to life.

The aged and withered hand trembled on its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife..... !

"Back off!" she said, "They're for the funeral."

Regarding the earlier posts about the problems in Ireland I just have to say that I think everyplace in the world has its pros and its cons.I feel very proud of being Irish and it fills me delight when I read all the nice things you guys say about about here on this forum.
Having said this I'm not a fool and I do understand the problems we have here.I lived in italy for almost 2 years and I loved every minute of it,the good and the bad!!!!!
You can find fault in everything but I prefer to focus on the good and positive things about Ireland and Italy when possible.I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe we should look on the bright side of things.

Violence Statistics
Regarding the statistics in the post above that was purely centred around Violence against Women.

Violence against anyone, Man Woman or child is wrong what's the difference whether it's a Man or Woman.

It seems you may have had a particulary bad experience with a Man or number of Men in the past, and for that you have my sympathy.

If you experienced Violence from a Family member or boyfriend I really do feel bad for you.

That it has clouded your judgement of the opposite sex to such an extent whereby you see Women as nothing but downtrodden victims of Men and have gone to the effort to back up your particular destructive slant on Feminism with an encyclopedia of statistics is a real shame.

As sick as it sounds some Girlfriends/Wives see their partners beating them senseless as proof that they really do love them.

The fact is there are many organisations that have been set up to help Women with the consequences of Violence in the home, Women do find it easier to communicate and talk about abuse, Men however feel shame at having to tell someone, they would rather die then tell a friend the Wife beat them up last night. Where are your statistics on Men? There are none. If a guy won't go to hospital to get his balls checked for testicular cancer is he gonna call the Cops to ask for help? No.

Would you believe a guy who told you he was in fear for his life from his girlfriend because she beats him up? I don't think so.

Well it happens believe me.

The fact is Women live longer than men on average 5 years and more Worldwide. Even Mens health adverts are aimed at their partners because men are conditioned not to go to the Doctor.
More men die on the job by far, when was the last time you heard of a woman who was killed on a building site while working there?

Maybe, if you experience true love with a Man you might not see them as such a threat, that's if you are into men, but you could be a Stereotype yourself and be a man hating lesbian. but you'll have to drop the preconceptions and twisted stereotypes Otherwise you'll end up bitter and twisted.

I'll say it again Violence of any kind is wrong, what's the difference if it's against a Man Woman Child or Animal?

regards
