Over recent years, there is no doubt that specialisation is paramount. You can see this in all walks of life (including recruitment) and Financial Services is the same. The advantages of Financial Services is that it is well paid, usually professional and in nice surroundings. The difficulties can be that it is usually in the centre of Dublin and therefore commuting is time consuming and there is rarely any parking. The other problem is that if you wish to live away from Dublin in the future, your skills are not easily transferable. Financial Services skills are movable in the sense that it is basically a service industry; but once again most service companies are based in the centre of Dublin. As an Accountant your skills are transferable, but only as far as the next Employer is concerned. Some disciplines require specialist skills - like costing within manufacturing, and Clients generally look for somebody with related experience that they can bring into their Company. HOWEVER, I think that everybody should do what is best for them. I have found that if you are positive and motivated, your career will progress. If a future employer sees a CV and an individual that is motivated and moving forward, those are the most important criteria. My view is that if you are happy you will be motivated and if you are motivated you will be happy. Your career, your remuneration and everything else will take care of itself, so I would say accept the Financial Services job!
