In teoria tutte le lezioni possono essere seguite anche dai non iscritti. Specialmente quelle tenute nelle aule più grosse (Boole basement) dove ti puoi perdere nella folla

Ciao a tutti,
ho fatto domanda per erasmus a cork e prima di partire devo scrivere il piano di studi con gli esami che intendo fare alla UCC.
Qualcuno che ha gia' studiato a cork puo' dirmi com'e' il carico di studio? Tutti mi hanno detto che in media gli esami sono piu' facili rispetto ai corrispettivi italiani; addirituttura un mio professore mi ha detto di mettere nel piano di studi esami per un totale maggiore di 60crediti (che e' considerato il numero giusto di crediti annui). E' veramente cosi'?
E in particolare vorrei sapere se e' fattibile seguire le lezioni (e riuscire a studiare) e contemporaneamente lavorare, magari solo di sera o il fine settimana.

Ho studiato tutti i vari complessi universitari (Castelwhite, Spires, ecc.) e sono rimasto schockato dai prezzi :(.
A parte questo qualcuno e' stato o abita tuttora in qualche alloggio e puoi consigliarmi/sconsigliarmi dove andare?
Sto guardando proprio ora "UCC Campus Accomodation" sul sito della ucc: Castelwhite prenotato per tutto l'anno e negli altri alloggi sono rimasti solo posti per il 2° semestre.
Magari ci sono un tot di posti riservati agli international students? o devo rassegnarmi a cercare un appartamento e farmi i km per raggiungere la ucc? :(

La cosa peggiore e' che le graduatorie degli studenti vincitori usciranno solo a fine aprile e quindi fino ad allora non posso organizzarmi.

Mi chiamo Gabriele,sono uno studente di lettere moderne,vivo a Napoli e bazzico su questo forum da un p di tempo,ho per deciso di iscrivermi soltanto ora.
A settembre sar all'UCC in qualit di studente Erasmus per sei mesi,mi chiedevo se c' qualcuno di voi che si trova nelle mie stesso condizione,in modo tale che si potrebbe cercare un alloggio insieme,scambiarsi utili informazioni,incontrarci una volt l,sorreggersi a vicenda nei momenti di panico,bere la birra dallo stesso bicchiere etc.

Io venerdì 16 settembre,cioè tra 4 giorni sono lì a Cork.
Arriverò verso le 4 o le 5 del pomeriggio,poi ho prenotato tre notti in ostello allo Sheilas,dovrò cercarmi casa sul posto,per cui qualsiasi dritta è gradita.
Voi quando arrivate?
Che ne dite di organizzare un bell incontro tra nuovi e vecchi irlandiani? (ora metto un post specifico per discuterne)

Qualcuno mi saprebbe dire come funzionano le iscrizioni ai corsi?? E' possibile rimanere tagliati fuori da quelli a numero chiuso? Ho provato a contattare l'international education office ma mi hanno dato delle risposte veramente criptiche..

Second turtle tracked from Dingle peninsula

A team of marine biologists from the University College Cork and the University Wales Swansea have successfully tracked a second leatherback turtle from the West Coast of Ireland. Leatherbacks travel to waters around the Ireland and the UK each summer to feed upon the abundant supply of jellyfish found in the Northern Atlantic.

The first turtle, 'Cuas' (named after the creek she was released from on the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry) was fitted with a satellite transmitter last September and has since swam over 8000 kilometres along the west coast of Africa and up towards Canada. Tom Doyle from University College Cork added "without the help of the local community, especially the salmon fisherman Pádraig Frank O'Súilleabháin and the staff from Dingle Aquarium none of this work would have been possible".

So when the team received a phone call on 29 June this year from Dingle fisherman, Jimmy Flannery saying a turtle had become entangled in fishing gear, there was a great mood of excitement. A few hours later the large male turtle had been released completely unharmed and a small transmitter attached to his back. As the turtle swam away from Cuas harbour Jonathan Houghton from the University of Wales Swansea commented "that is without doubt the biggest turtle I have ever seen!" This was no exaggeration as the turtle was exceptionally large with a shell length of 168 cm, some 15 cm bigger than 'Cuas' the turtle from the previous year.

In the 10 days since the second turtle (yet to be named) left the west coast of Ireland, he has travelled 700 km south and is presently in the outer reaches of the Bay of Biscay bordering France and Spain. All data retrieved from both turtles will provide vital insights to the foraging behaviour of this endangered species. The project, supported by the European Union, National Parks and Wildlife Service (Ireland) and the Marine Institute in Galway, is due to continue until the end of July yet data will be sent back from the turtles for hopefully another year.

io sono laureata in psicologia del lavoro e delle organizzazioni (a Padova), che quà però si traduce in applied psychology.

Ho lavorato per 5 anni a Milano nelle ricerche di mercato (sia quelle qualitative che quantitative). Negli ultimi 5 anni ho fatto un po' di tutto (contabilità, insegnamento), ma soprattutto la mamma.

Tra circa uno o forse due anni (quando Juliet andrà a scuola) vorrei trovare un lavoro part-time, e perchè no, nel settore della psicologia.



Avete un'idea di quello che potrei fare? Così, giusto per pensarci sù, visto che manca tanto tempo....

Launch of the Marine Irish Digital Atlas (MIDA) at University College Cork (UCC)

Access to a wealth of information on the marine and coastal environment is now available online in a new digital atlas, officially launched today (25 July 2006) by Professor Gerard T. Wrixon, President, UCC. The Marine Irish Digital Atlas (MIDA), which has taken over four years to develop, has been produced and is maintained by UCC's Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (CMRC). The atlas provides an insight into topics of general interest such as information on water-based tourism, natural coastal features, special habitats and a range of species, including seals, whales and dolphins.

For students or coastal practitioners with more specific information requirements, the interactive atlas hosts over 115 maps, displaying the locations of features such as ship wrecks, marinas, ports and conservation areas. According to project manager Liz O'Dea, thanks to data agreements with over 30 data providers, some data can also be downloaded directly.

The MIDA initiative, originally funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), has helped UCC's CMRC to build capacity in marine geomatics by attracting researchers from across Europe and the United States to work on the project. The MIDA engine (i.e. the technology upon which it functions) is based on state of the art open source software, which has been customised by GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and computer science specialists working within the Centre. This effort was complimented by contributions from researchers in UCC and other institutions with expert knowledge of the coastal and marine environment, leading to an interdisciplinary approach to the implementation of the project.

The launch of MIDA places Ireland in the unique position of being one of a limited number of countries with access to an integrated marine data and information resource at the national level. Other national or state level atlases are available in Australia, Belgium and the state of Oregon. As a result, the MIDA launch has been organised to coincide with a transatlantic workshop, hosted in UCC this week, involving marine scientists from the US, Belgium, the UK, Canada and Ireland as well as the European Environment Agency. These scientists aim to identify the future challenges for managing coastal data and information, including the next generation of supporting GIS technologies. They will also work to produce guidelines for other countries with an interest in developing their own coastal atlases.

Another unique feature of MIDA is the all island nature of the resource. North-South collaboration between UCC and the University of Ulster in Coleraine has ensured that matching datasets could be acquired for the coastline of Northern Ireland, thanks to the vision and support of Joe Breen, Environment and Heritage Service, Northern Ireland.

Valerie Cummins, MIDA co-ordinator and CMRC manager, said: "The teamwork involved in getting MIDA to this stage represents a huge effort from the researchers and the many Leonardo da Vinci interns who assisted over the last few years. MIDA has been identified as a strategic flagship project for the CMRC, and as such, it will continue to be maintained and enhanced to ensure the long-term sustainability of the resource for the people of Ireland. It is envisaged that future development will focus on the addition of more data layers, and on producing new tools for specific users such as secondary schools and marine eco-tourism operators."

Ciao a tutti, mi sono appena iscritto a questo bellissimo forum. A settembre arriverò a Cork per l'erasmus all'UCC e sto cominciando a guardare qua e là per cercare un pò informazioni su tutto. Ovviamente uno dei primi problemi da affrontare è quello dell'alloggio: ho cercato di leggere il più possibile tutti i topic già aperti per trovare eventuali risposte ai miei dubbi, ma non li ho trovati (spero di aver cercato bene e in ogni caso chiedo scusa se ne ho aperto un altro).
La mia intenzione sarebbe quella di andare in uno studentato (sperando ci sia ancora posto) e visto che la prenotazione sarebbe on-line mi piacerebbe avere da voi o da qualcuno che c'è stato qualche informazione sugli studentati, magari quale scegliere, quale evitare, quelli più comidi e vicini ecc. Dal sito UCC gli studentati sono questi: Castlewhite, Victoria Lodge, University Hall.
Sapete se ce ne sono altri? Ho parlato con un ragazzo che è stato l'anno scorso e mi ha detto che era a The Spires, a 5 minuti dall'uni e secondo lui il migliore. Soltanto che questo the spires non compare nell'elenco degli studentati sul sito...
