As we recently got a request of italian lessons, I open this thread for everyone is interested in learning the italian language.

Are you irish and do you want to learn a bit of italian?

You can ask here anything you want to know about the italian language.
There are so many italians in here, someone will help you (sooner or later).

Here we can exchange information about translation, word usage, terminology and other linguistic topics.

    Here's the first one...

Somebody asked me what "ciabatta" means and how we pronounce it.

    - we pronounce it with the "c" as in "church" (not as in "cold"!)
    - ciabatta is a type of bread. Literally it means "slipper" because it has the shape of a slipper.

Well, "Ciabatta" (here in Maremma) could be a girl with a lot of sexual experience. She can be similar to the Sheela Na Gig [SM=g27828]

but i'm pretty sure that in maremma is very common the use of the word "tegame" to indicate those streetwise girls!!!

a tegame is commonly a deep pan.
    can anybody provide a picture? [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828] [SM=g27828]

    not only the streetwise girls...
even a mother can be a deep pan (in Leghorn: il tegame di tu' ma' , often dressed like Zorro) [SM=g27828]

Strange, we (in Marcheshire)usually call "ciabatta" a girl without sex-appeal and no fashion dressed.

if i had to think of the word "ciabatta" associated to a femminine image, i'd visualise a woman, in her middle/old age, dressed in a worn out fashion, not exactly pleasant aesthetically speaking. "vecchia ciabatta", would be the full expression, and it can be used also referring to a person (never mind the gender) who's as useful as a swimming suit in north donegal in november

    Francesco Totti
Ora che mi sono imparato l'italiano anch'io...posso impararmi anche l'inglese!!! ao!

Il presidente Sensi, insieme a tutta la società giallorossa ha reputato necessario che il capitano della squadra Francesco Totti, imparasse l'inglese. Non riuscendo a costringere "er pupone" a frequentare un corso durante l'estate è stato commissionato un dizionario "Inglese-Pupone" di cui forniamo alcuni stralci:
