Celebration and reflection as Ian Paisley turns 80
06 April 2006
Whether it's his regular swim, his daily bowl of porridge, a life of good living or the family genes, Ian Paisley is looking "very well thank you" for a man who today celebrates his 80th birthday.
Holding court in his Stormont office yesterday afternoon, the Big Man readied himself for his big day and said: "I feel great. I really do.
I don't feel 80 and I'm told I don't look it.
"There's some fellas of 50 years-of-age in Parliament have asked me what my secret is because I look younger than them.
"I don't know what it is. I sleep very well and I get my rest. r"Of course, I have never had alcohol or cigarettes; never broke the commandments of God and inherited a healthy body and life from my parents."
Yet, despite these solid building blocks, it's not as if 'the Doc' hasn't put his body, mind and soul to the test over the years.
He still clocks up 12 to 16 hours a day in political and church work, which involves a responsibility and pressure many would find unbearable.
Indeed, as he chats with the News Letter, the DUP leader has just come off a flight from London.

Un intero topic per raccontare gli 80 anni di un protagonista della politica nordirlandese. Su LET gli abbiamo dedicato una paginetta perché, nonostante l'età, è ancora molto combattivo e chiaro nei suoi discorsi.
Happy birthday, Ian
