Garda technical experts are to examine the scene of a pipe bomb explosion outside a house in Coolock in north Dublin, yesterday afternoon.
No one was injured in the blast which occurred outside the home of a car dealer.
The pipe bomb consisted of nails and shotgun pellets along with a quantity of explosives which had been concealed in a flask.
It had been left on top of the boot of a car in the driveway of a house on Glin Road in Clonshaugh.
At 4.45pm yesterday evening two men went to move the car. The flask containing the bomb fell off the boot, broke apart and subsequently exploded.
The people who were at the scene had enough time to move away from the device before it exploded and nobody was injured.
The army bomb disposal unit were called to the scene and the area was sealed off.
Gardaí are now trying to establish a motive for the attack. They are also investigating the possibility that the bomb was made by dissident republicans.
Garda technical experts will carry out a detailed investigation of the scene later this morning.
