Come, Prodi e Bertie Aherne hanno già litigato (a sangue) sulla questione del veto da parte dei paesi di grandezza minore (tra cui l'Irlanda).
Ieri sera Prodi è stato intervistato su RTE1 da una giornalista irlandese incazzatissima (irlandiani, l'avete visto? ) ed era verde dalla rabbia durante le risposte.
Prodi: di certo non l'uomo più amato dagli Irlandesi, non è la prima che tira sul rispetto delle minoranze.
Beccatevi un po'di pettegolezzi...

Ahern fires latest salvo in EU row with Prodi

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern and EU Commission president Romano Prodi remain at loggerheads over the future of the EU.Mr Ahern said yesterday it was not helpful for people to be "running off" on other agendas instead of concentrating on the difficult and many aspects of European enlargement.

"Romano Prodi has never stopped talking about a two-tier Europe for many years and I've never stopped reminding him that I don't think it's a good idea so I'm not going to stop now either," Mr Ahern said.

The row between the two has been building since Ireland's EU presidency began last Thursday. Mr Prodi warned powerful countries like France and Germany will split to form their own group within the EU if a new European constitution is not agreed.

But speaking on RTÉ's This Week yesterday, Mr Ahern made clear the Irish presidency would encourage members to work collectively to reach consensus.

"I think the European model is about convincing people, bringing everyone collectively together," he said.

Mr Ahern's cabinet is due to meet tomorrow with Mr Prodi and 20 EC officials to discuss Ireland's EU presidency programme.

Mr Ahern said one of the difficulties was that the integrationists in Europe wanted to move at an enormously fast pace while others want to move at a more moderate pace.

On the issue of majority voting which has left France and Germany pitted against Spain, Poland and others Mr Ahern said the split must be addressed.

"The best way that Europe operates is in moving together and that requires us to deal with the voting issue," he said.
