[SM=g27828]

aggressione a neil lennon
Celtic coach Neil Lennon was knocked unconscious while being assaulted in Glasgow on Sunday, the club has said.

A Celtic football club spokesman said Lennon was the target of "sectarian abuse" while walking home alone.

The former Celtic and Northern Ireland player was then subjected to a "serious assault" by two men during which he was "knocked unconscious", the club said.

Lennon was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary and treated for a cut to his eye and concussion.

The attack happened hours after Celtic lost their SPL home match against Old Firm rivals Rangers.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 12.25am to a report of a 37-year-old man assaulted in Ashton Lane.

The assault came after Neil was subjected to sectarian abuse. It is understood that during the course of the attack Neil lost consciousness.
Celtic FC spokesman
"The injured man was taken to hospital then released after treatment for minor injuries.

"He did not wish to make a complaint; however, police inquiries are ongoing into the incident."

Police described one suspect as white, 40 to 50 years of age and of heavy build. He was wearing a light-blue shirt and a black leather jacket.

The second suspect was described as white and between 40 to 50 years of age. He was wearing a light-coloured shirt.

A Celtic spokesman said: "We can confirm that while walking home alone last night, Neil Lennon was the victim of a serious assault by two men.

"The assault came after Neil was subjected to sectarian abuse.

"It is understood that during the course of the attack Neil lost consciousness.

"He was then taken by ambulance to hospital where his injuries were treated and he was later released.

"Strathclyde Police are carrying out an investigation into the assault, and clearly Neil will be fully co-operating with this."

'Sectarian abuse'

A friend of Mr Lennon, who did not want to be named, said the Celtic coach had gone out for a drink with friends in Ashton Lane at about 2200 BST.

The friend said that when Lennon left shortly after midnight he heard someone shout sectarian abuse.

He said Lennon was then "jumped from behind, hit over the head and knocked unconscious".

The Celtic coach was spotted lying in the street by a steward from a nearby pub, who called an ambulance.

The friend said Lennon's partner, who had been trying to contact him, was "extremely distressed" when she learned that he was in hospital.

In September 2003, two students were fined after an attack on Lennon in Glasgow.

In another incident, vandals daubed graffiti outside his home in Glasgow in May 2004.

In 2003, Lennon vowed he would never play for his country again because of a reported death threat.

Loyalist paramilitaries insisted the warning was bogus, but Lennon, a Catholic, said he was not prepared to suffer any more sectarian victimisation.

He had previously been booed by sections of the Northern Ireland support.

Ma intanto i verdi rischiano di perdere Nakamura già a gennaio prossimo.
Fonte: BBC News

Nakamura wants return to Japan

Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura has indicated he wants to return to his native Japan and could leave in the January transfer window.

The Japan international says he wants to go home for the good of his family after three years in Scotland.

"A move in January might be possible, I leave things like that to my agent," said Nakamura.

"If I was Scottish, I'd love to play at Celtic forever, but I'm Japanese and I also have a family and kids."

Nakamura, one of Japan's top sports stars, joined Celtic from Italian Serie A club Reggina in August 2005.

In his second season, he was voted Scotland's player of the year by his fellow.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan decided to rest Nakamura on the bench for Saturday's 4-2 win over Motherwell after he turned out for Japan in their World Cup qualifier in Bahrain last week.

And the player highlighted his continued involvement with his country as another reason for wanting to leave Scotland.

"I've also had to think about the national team as well and I'm finding it quite hard travelling back and forward all the time," Nakamura said.

"When I take everything into consideration, it makes me thing I might need to go back to Japan."

The player says his agent has been speaking with a number of J-League clubs about a possible transfer.

But it is widely believed the front-runners for Nakamura's signature are his former club, Yokohama F Marinos.

The player's contract runs out at the end the current campaign, although Celtic have an option to extend for another season.

However, in theory, he could leave at the end of this season for nothing and Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell must weigh up any possible fee against keeping Nakamura in the squad as the club pushes for its fourth successive league title.

If Nakamura were to leave in January, it would also mean he would miss any involvement Celtic may have in the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, the Japanese says the chief executive has not informed him of the club's plans for him.

"Peter hasn't said he doesn't need me yet, so I honestly don't know what will happen," said Nakamura.

Gli u**i non si smentiscono mai.

Concerns raised over famine song

Irish diplomats have raised concerns with the Scottish Government over chanting by a section of the Rangers support at last month's Old Firm match.

Representations were made by Ireland's Consul General after a Celtic supporter complained about a song which refers to the Irish potato famine.

Rangers FC said it has asked its fans to refrain from singing the song.

The Scottish Government confirmed it had been advised by Ireland's Consul General of the Celtic fan's complaint.

The controversy surrounds a song which referred to the famine which killed an estimated one million people in the 1840s and set in motion the mass migration of Irish people.

The song includes the line: "The famine's over, why don't you go home".

After the song was sung by some Rangers supporters at last month's Old Firm game, a Celtic fan wrote to the Irish Embassy in London to complain.

The Irish consul general in Edinburgh raised the issue at her regular meeting with the Scottish Government.

The Scottish Government made no comment on the discussions, but insisted that several campaigns against bigotry were beginning to work.

A spokesman said: "The Scottish Government is totally committed to combating sectarianism and bigotry, which is why we have expanded on the work of the previous administration and are doing more.

"We are working with the clubs themselves, as they are part of the solution to the problem."

Sporting behaviour

A spokesperson for Rangers said: "In the days following the recent Old Firm match, the Club were made aware that a substantial number of complaints had been made regarding the singing of the chorus of a song known as 'The Famine Song' by our supporters at this match.

"Rangers Football Club approached Strathclyde Police for guidance on this matter, with a view to issuing a joint statement indicating that persons singing this song in future may face the possibility of arrest.

"Strathclyde Police were not able to commit to this until they had carried out further investigation."

The spokesman said the club had a long-established policy of encouraging sporting behaviour and discouraged the singing of songs which others found offensive.

"Clearly 'The Famine Song' has provoked such a response in certain quarters," he added.

"It is the club's view that the interest of our supporters and the club will be best served by supporters refraining from singing 'The Famine Song'."

il catalano Crosas
From Setanta

Marc Crosas says he will always love Barcelona - but admits Celtic have now stolen his heart.

The 20-year-old moved to Celtic Park in the summer and, although Barcelona still have the option to buy him back at the end of next season as part of the deal, he says The Hoops are now his number one team.

Crosas remains great friends with Barca wonderkid Bojan Krkic and, while he is desperate to see his old club come through their current troubles, he says he now focuses more on the performances of his former team-mate than his former side.

"I'm very close to him and we speak all of the time on the phone," he said in the Daily Record.

"We have spoken a lot since I came to Scotland and he wants me to be a big success at Celtic.

"We are leading different lives now but we share the same dream - to make it big in football.

"Now when I watch Barcelona, I think of my friend first and the team second.

"Of course I will always love Barcelona, but Celtic are in my heart now because they are my team."

He added: "Bojan can be a big player for Barcelona and I'm sure he can help them have a successful year.

"They are going through a difficult period at the moment, but they can get through it.

"I hope they do and I hope both myself and Bojan can have great years at our clubs."
