Si Paolino, in stream su Raidiò na Gaeltachta settimana scorsa. Per pure fortuna, visto che raramente riesco a collegarmi. Niente male davvero... motivo in più per aver fretta di vederli live.

Però da un pò mancano notizie sui loro prossimi tour da queste parti.

Whipping Boy to re-release debut
Reunited Irish quartet Whipping Boy are to re-release their debut album 'Submarine' in May.

The re-mastered version of the long-deleted 1992 album will be available from 12 May on Whipping Boy Recordings.

Qualche "spezzone" in giro per la rete ma non ancora l'album completo. Quello che ho sentito mi è piaciuto assai, non c'é che dire. Ma "Otherworld", a parer mio, resiste ancora come il loro lavoro meglio riuscito.

I nordirlandesi Therapy? hanno pubblicato pochi giorni fa un nuovo album, "One cure fits all", il loro undicesimo di studio, ed hanno concesso un'intervista al quotidiano "Belfast Telegraph" in cui affermano d'essersi (piacevolmente) accorti d'avere un forte ricambio generazionale di fan. Vedendo che ai loro concerti vi sono sì dei "vecchi" rocker che li seguono dal debutto ma anche dei quindicenni che pogano come disperati, il frontman Andy Cairns ha affermato: "La chiamiamo la 'sindrome da Iron Maiden'. Ormai è da qualche anno che vediamo visi giovani quando suoniamo, e devo dire che è una cosa molto cool. Siamo in un periodo in cui metà del nostro pubblico non poteva vederci dal vivo quando pubblicammo i nostri singoli di maggiore successo, come 'Screamager' e 'Nowhere', e adesso questa gente ascolta dal vivo queste canzoni per la prima volta. Penso che per il gruppo sia un segno di salute, significa che le cose non rimangono stagnanti".

Brian Kennedy has qualified for the final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest with his own composition 'Every Song Is A Cry For Love'.

He has also made a piece of Eurovision history by being the 1000th act to perform in the competition, when he took to the stage in last night's semi-final in Athens.

Nine other countries qualified for the final during last night's show. The songs were chosen by public voting in Europe, Turkey and Israel - by phone and text message. This will also be the method used to choose a winner on Saturday.

Finland, Lithuania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine, Turkey, Armenia, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russia also qualified for the final on Saturday night.

Through everything - endless years of being labelled the "next big thing", tours to all the remotest corners of this country and many others, the disintegration of record deals - frontman Glen Hansard has always kept faith with The Frames. As a result, 'The Swell Season' - a collaborative project with Czech singer/pianist Marketa Irglova - is his first album independent of the band. And it's far more than just a stopgap between 2004's 'Burn the Maps' and this year's promised follow-up.

There are few frills on 'The Swell Season'. Recorded in Prague over just four days with a simple, stripped down quartet - Irglova's piano and Hansard's guitar, bolstered by Marja Tuhkanen on violin and Bertrand Galen's cello - the album spans the downward trajectory of a doomed relationship. There's painful yearning in the heartbreaking 'Falling Slowly' ("Take this sinking boat and point it home/We've still got time, raise your hopeful voice"), self-loathing ('Leave') and despair ('Sleeping' - "And all that you've ever owned/Is packed in the hall to go/ And how am I supposed to live without you?").

The centrepiece of the album is Irglova's piano-driven title song, three minutes of perfect melancholy. She has an airy, pure voice which combines beautifully with Hansard's throughout the album, most memorably on 'Lies' and 'Drown Out'. But it's also strong enough to stand alone 0n (slightly) hopeful closing track 'Alone Apart'.

Perfect end-of-the-evening listening, 'The Swell Season' is a beautiful, soul-wrenching album. For the daylight hours we'll look forward to The Frames' new LP.

Li stanno pubblicizzando nei circuiti di Radio 105 e ne dicono un gran bene. Quasi quasi procedo all'acquisto.

Ciaran Smith, a.k.a. Crayonsmith, creates adventurous indie pop music that warms the senses. Released on the Musical Voodoo Label, this, his debut album, cascades along with an enchanting ambience that gets right under the skin. It is an album designed to catch the listener off-guard and lure them in closer with its textured melodies and lush harmonies.

Opening with the excellent 'Drunken Smile', Smith's soft vocals stand out straight away. He sings like someone who has grown up listening to The Beach Boys and Neil Young but would now be more influenced by a band like Joy Zipper. It's quite a likeable voice. The music itself has a hint of Pavement and Beck to it, but there is enough originality running through to keep his sound fresh and inventive.

As the album starts to spin, a charisma emerges through Smith's songwriting and musicianship. It comes in the form of a mellow aftertaste that leaves the listener wanting more. Tracks like 'Lock-In' and 'Scarytale' perfectly reveal this with their well-timed injections of colour and imagination. Aided by a cabal of indie mechanics (most notably John Cowhie a.k.a. Goodtime John), 'Stay Loose' never feels like Smith is on his own. There are backing vocals, drums, keys, bass and plenty of humming happening in the background throughout its thirty-three minute duration.

Working like a musical surgeon – hurriedly connecting, disconnecting and reconnecting parts in order for them to fit in the right place - Smith delicately balances an indie pop assuredness with electronic leanings. He chooses to keep things simple and to make sure that the flow of the album is never disturbed. This in turn makes 'Stay Loose' a cascading adventure that introduces the listener to the exciting talent of Crayonsmith.
